My daughter, Allison, started hunting deer when she was 13. Now she is 27, and for one reason or another during that time she has not shot a deer with her .308. But she has never gotten discouraged — perhaps because I instilled in my kids that hunting is not so much about getting a deer as it is about being in the great outdoors with family. This year, Allison's patience paid off: She shot her first buck — and her second, while hunting near Togo with me and her godfather, Greg Reed of Deerwood. The two deer came by her stand within five minutes of one another. We now call her one-shot, one-kill Allison. Chris Shoaff, Savage
