United FC midfielder Jonny Steele and the soccer club will be parting ways, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Tuesday morning.

Steele, who signed with the North American Soccer League club before the spring season, will not return for the fall season opening game Saturday at Carolina.

A veteran of Major League Soccer clubs Real Salt Lake and New York Red Bulls, Steele signed with Minnesota looking to bring an aggressive, attacking style. The Loons started the spring season without a victory in its first four matches. Steele started all four matches but only appeared in one league match the remainder of the season.

He did not score a goal or tally an assist.

Steele's departure is another hit to the Loons' midfield corps. Jamie Watson was lost to a knee injury and U.S. National Team call-up Miguel Ibarra was transferred to Club Leon in Liga MX.
