Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees are both putting up amazing, otherworldly statistics this season. They have to be considered the frontrunners for the NFL MVP award. The question: If you were a voter, which one would you vote for? In the pro-Rodgers camp: He has 45 TD passes and 6 INTs, which is ridiculous. He currently has a 122.5 rating, which would be an NFL record. And he's pretty much been the front-runner for the entire season, leading the Packers to the NFL's best record.
In the pro-Brees camp: He just broke Dan Marino's single-season record for passing yards (now at 5,087) and he still has one game left to play. With a monster outing, Brees could end up at or near 5,500 yards in a season. He is on pace to break his own record for completion percentage in a season; currently, he's at 70.7 percent. Also, his 108.4 rating and 41 TD passes are no slouches. And the Saints, at 12-3, could very well be the most dangerous team in football right now -- Packers included. Brees also has led three fourth-quarter comebacks and four game-winning drives this season. Rodgers -- perhaps through no fault of his own -- has no comebacks and just one game-winning drive.
Head-to-head this season, the Packers beat the Saints 42-34 in the opener when the Saints were stuffed at the 1-yard line on a running plate late. That's about as close as it gets. Rodgers had the better rating and won the game; Brees threw for more yards and TD passes. Truly, you can't go wrong with either one. And we wouldn't even be that upset with co-MVPs this year. But if you had to pick just one, which would it be?
