April 29, 1929: Born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
1948-49: Played junior hockey for the Brandon (Manitoba) Wheat Kings, who lost in the 1949 Memorial Cup (Canada's national junior championship) final to Montreal.
1949-54: Played professionally from 1949-54 as a left winger, including a stint with the Minneapolis Millers. Played in 28 NHL games for the New York Rangers, scoring two goals.
Feb 23, 1955: Struck in the left eye by a teammate's shot while playing for Cleveland of the AHL. The loss of an eye ended his playing career. His only child, daughter Kate, was born four days later.
1955-66: Coached and taught physical education in various spots after starting as the freshman hockey coach for the Gophers under John Mariucci. Got his master's degree while coaching the club team at Ohio State in 1965.
1966-71: Head coach for the Gophers. WCHA coach of the year in 1970; won WCHA title and NCAA runner-up in 1971.
1971-77: Hired as general manager of the WHA's Minnesota Fighting Saints. Coached for half the team's first season. After the original Fighting Saints folded in 1976, he coached the new Fighting Saints until that franchise folded as well in its first season.
1977-78: Coached the Birmingham Barons of the WHA.
1978-86: Coached the Minnesota North Stars. Lost in the Stanley Cup Final in 1981.
1986-88: North Stars director of player development.
1993-95: Minnesota Moose of the International Hockey League's director of player personnel.
1996-2011: Radio analyst for Gophers hockey games. Also an amateur scout for the Wild.
Monday: Died at an assisted-living facility in Paris, Ontario.
