Le Cordon Bleu offers classes

Travelzoo is teaming up with Le Cordon Bleu schools across the country, including in Minnesota, to offer special cooking school opportunities over the next nine months. (Think gift ideas for the foodies in your life.) Locally, the classes will be at Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts, 1315 Mendota Heights Road in Mendota Heights. Dozens of classes cover a range of cuisines and techniques from pies to Thai. The total immersion experience is meant to resemble what it's like being a bona fide culinary student. Most one-day classes cost $99 or $125, but if purchased through Travelzoo by May 13, the cost is $59 for one person, and $109 for two people. Visit www.travelzoo.com for all the details. Sale ends May 13. Purchases are valid until Feb. 1, 2016. To view the local workshop calendar, visit www.bleuribbonkitchen.com.

The contest is free, and will award a record $327,000 in prizes for aspiring innovators and entrepreneurs. Entry deadline is May 8 at 11:59 p.m. Semifinalists will be announced in early June and final awards will be given in September. For full details, visit carlsonschool.umn.edu/mn-cup.

A chef-driven CSA from Tim McKee

Here's an intriguing spin on the CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) farm share: a monthly box of goodies (fruits, vegetables, herbs and meats) curated by La Belle Vie chef/owner Tim McKee and drawn from the kitchen's top local purveyors. In addition, each box will contain a La Belle Vie recipe, as well as a fresh cocktail mix created by bar manager Adam Gorski.

When they pick up their boxes at the restaurant (510 Groveland Av., Mpls., www.labellevie.us), CSA members will also have the opportunity to order a meal from a menu featuring ingredients from that month's CSA inventory. Cost is $100 per month, available from May through the end of the growing season. To join, call 612-874-6440.
