A major storm got underway in the Southwest this morning, spreading rain andheavy mountain snow over California as it sidled onshore. Accumulating snowfallcan be expected from the Sierra of California today to parts of Iowa andMissouri by late tonight.The heaviest snow, with totals up to 2 feet, will pile up in the higherelevations of California, Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. Powerfulwinds will create white-out conditions in the Four Corners region tonight intoTuesday.

While snowfall amounts will vary greatly throughout the Southwest, the snowwill bring slick and hazardous road conditions throughout the region. Highwaysincluding I-80, I-70, I-40, I-25 and I-15 will all be affected by the wintryweather over the next 24 hours.
