Joe Laube held his son, Tyler, for the first time while his wife, Sara, was cared for by a certified nurse-midwife from North Metro Midwives. Tyler, the Champlin couple's first child, was born March 1 at North Memorial Hospital in Robbinsdale. After 6 1/2 hours of labor and two hours of pushing, Sara gave birth at 9:35 a.m. Tyler weighed in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces and measured 20 1/2 inches long. "I think he's wonderful, and he was worth all the pain," she said. For Dad, the experience was not quite what he expected. "I've always seen in the movies … two pushes and it's out," he said. Both parents would like to have another child someday, but for now they plan to enjoy Tyler. "I think today is the best day," Sara said.
