Former GOP congressman Vin Weber tells The Washington Post's Chris Cillizza that State Sen. Randy Demmer gives the Republicans a better chance of unseating Rep. Tim Walz in southern Minnesota's First District. The Washington-based Minnesota Republican is quoted saying "Democrats had been counting on the Republicans nominating Allen Quist… Now they know they'll have a fight on their hands." Demmer defeated Quist, an ardent social conservative, after eight ballots in a nominating convention over the weekend. Republicans see Walz's seat as their best pick-up opportunity in the state in an election year that is expected to be good to the GOP.
