Vita.mn Poolside Fashion Show

Vita.mn's sixth annual Poolside is a combo punch of hot summer looks and swank entertainment. First, a social hour featuring a DJ set by Jonathan Ackerman. Boom! Next, there's a two-part fashion show by the Calhoun Beach Club pool, soundtracked by the bossa nova pop of Buffalo Moon. Wham! Later, things head into the solarium for a third runway event. Kapow! Finally, it's all finished off with an after-party. Experience more than 40 looks in all, along with drink specials, cocktails and free appetizers all night.

Open Streets Minneapolis

Say what you will about cars, but this much is fact: It smarts to get hit by one. Hip to this truism is Open Streets, an initiative by the Minneapolis Bicycle Coalition that encourages mingling, biking, skating, etc., in a temporarily sans-auto portion of Lyndale Avenue. There's also organized games, yoga, musical performances and bike-safety classes. The whole shebang aims to encourage physical activity, promote sustainable transportation and drive foot/wheel traffic to local businesses. Motorists, cruise on over to Hennepin or Nicollet for the afternoon, where it's OK to be you.

Queer Prom

Odds are your prom experience was shackled by heteronormativity, with a queen and a king ruling over the whole starched-collar affair. No more! Queer Prom is a theater/GLBT-themed party presented by the 20% Theatre Company. All your prom standards will be on hand, such as court (like never before, we're promised), photos and decade-spanning dance tracks courtesy of DJ Blowtorch. Unlike high school, there'll be a cash bar. Also: a silent auction/raffle, free food and performances by 20%. Guests are encouraged to dress however they please and bring whomever they want.
