Tropical Cyclone Oli, now strengthening over the open South Pacific Ocean,could pose a threat to Tahiti and nearby islands of French Polynesia late inthe week.T.C. Oli, which formed east of the Samoa Islands on Sunday night, EST, acquiredhighest sustained winds of just over 60 mph as of early Tuesday morning. Oliwill strengthen further through at least Wednesday as it tracks towards thesoutheast and the east over open seas.

Oli will become a hurricane by midweek. It would still be known as tropicalcyclone, however.

Were Oli to take a more easterly path than now forecast, it could directlyaffect Bora Bora, Tahiti and other nearby islands with damaging winds andtorrential rain.
