MILWAUKEE — Supporters of the man killed by police in a downtown Milwaukee park are urging the city's Fire and Police Commission to uphold the termination of the officer who fired the fatal shots.

Christopher Manney was fired for failing to follow the department's protocol in dealing with a man thought to be mentally ill. Manney shot and killed Dontre Hamilton last April after the two struggled in the park.

About 20 supporters of the Hamilton family gathered in the park Thursday evening and walked to the commission meeting at City Hall. WITI-TV (http://bit.ly/1tSOhpc ) reports Curtis Sails with the Coalition for Justice told commissioners Manney is not fit to be an officer anymore.

The commission is expected to take up Manney's appeal of his termination at a meeting in February.
