Donald Fagen will perform at the Minnesota State Fair for the second consecutive year – only this time it will be with his main group, Steely Dan. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame duo of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen (plus a cast of musicians) will appear Aug. 30 at the grandstand as part of their Shuffle Diplomacy Twenty Eleven Tour. In some cities, Steely Dan will do hits plus rarities and, in others, they will recreate an album in its entirety as the group did in 2009 at Northrop Auditorium with "Aja." No word yet on the format or tickets for the State Fair gig. Fagen played the fair in 2010 on a rainy night with Boz Scaggs and Michael McDonald. There were precious few Steely Dan numbers that evening. At least this year grandstand-goers will hear more Dan. Let's hope Fagen and the rest of us won't have to experience a rainstorm as well.
