Torrential rains that pelted the drought-stricken South and Southeast duringlate March and early April swelled many rivers from low flow to flooding. As ofSaturday, many rivers of northwestern Florida and southern Georgia were stillflooding more than one week after the end of the triggering cloudbursts.This latest spell of dry weather will not last as another bout of heavy rainwill threaten further rises in river levels early in the week.

Showers and thunderstorms, some with torrential downpours, will spread eastfrom the Lower Mississippi Valley to the southern Atlantic Coast Monday throughearly Tuesday.

Rainfall locally reaching 4 inches or more will douse an area centered overGeorgia, South Carolina, Alabama and northwestern Florida. Urban and smallstream flooding will be the most common adverse impact. Where bigger rivers arealready high or flooding, any heavy rain could cause marked rises in waterlevel.
