For the first time in its 40-year history, the National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) held its annual convention in the Twin Cities. The confab attracted thousands of journalists, and the state's cultural amenities left a good impression. The TV, print and multimedia personalities took in events at Walker Art Center, First Avenue and a host of local venues. Prince even invited the group out to Paisley Park for a closing night party. His Purple Highness didn't perform, but he did greet revelers and invited a few to his private quarters for a chat. Many of the visitors left beaming about Minnesota's vibrant cultural life. That may shorten the time it takes for NABJ to come back.
