New senior pastor at Zion LutheranZion Lutheran Church in Anoka has a new senior pastor, the Rev. Peter Nycklemoe.
Nycklemoe had served since 1998 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester. He is a Wisconsin native and graduate of St. Olaf College in Northfield.
Before serving at Mount Olive, he was youth director at Prince of Peace in Roseville, intern at First Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon, Wash., solo pastor at Zion Lutheran in Racine, Wis., and solo pastor at Martin Luther Church in Milwaukee.

Reading and signing for historical bookThe Anoka County Historical Society will host an appearance Sunday by Kerck Kelsey, who will read from his new book, "Prairie Lightning: The Rise and Fall of William Drew Washburn," about the life of the prominent Minneapolis businessman and politician.
Washburn represented Minnesota in the House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate from 1879 to 1895 and was a founder of the Washburn-Crosby grain company.
The event is set for 3 p.m. at the Anoka County History Center and Library, 2135 3rd Av. N., Anoka.

City council candidate forum set for Aug. 4The League of Women Voters of Crystal-New Hope-East Plymouth will hold a public forum at 7 p.m. next Wednesday at the Crystal City Hall Council Chambers, 4141 Douglas Drive, where Crystal Ward 4 candidates will introduce themselves and respond to questions from the audience.
Five candidates have filed for the seat: Bob Brenton, Julie Deshler, Josiah Filson, Timothy Hoppe and Tom Jungroth. The primary will be held Tuesday, Aug. 10, with the top two vote-getters advancing to the Nov. 2 general election.
This fall's election for Ward 4 is a special election resulting from the resignation of the Ward 4 council member. The term expires Dec. 31, 2012.

Postponed fireworks rescheduled for Aug. 3City fireworks that were postponed because of bad weather on July 17 are rescheduled for Tuesday They'll be held at 9:45 p.m. in Booster Park West after Night to Unite festivities.
MINNEAPOLIS
Lifetime volunteers get presidential honorMary Whitney of Minneapolis and David Lee Hall of St. Paul recently received the President's Lifetime Volunteer Service Award, a national honor.
Whitney was recognized for 5,000 hours of volunteer service and Hall for more than 8,000 hours. The minimum requirement to receive the award is 4,000 volunteer hours.
Whitney has orchestrated conflict mediation with youth in schools, has volunteered in prisons working on reconciliation between perpetrators and victims, and has worked with women leaving incarceration and suffering from domestic violence.
Hall has worked with veterans since 1967, starting three different veterans organizations, one based in Minneapolis called the Black Vets of America. He has also worked with inner-city youth in St. Paul for several years.
SHOREVIEW
Green Community Awards Tour is setMaps are available for a self-guided tour this weekend of rain gardens, shoreline buffers and habitat gardens that have received city recognition.
The tour will be held from 12:30 to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
Stops will include nine homes and a church in Shoreview and a home in Roseville, as well as a volunteer-maintained rain garden at the Island Lake Fire Station. Each property will be shown for only one of the days.
