Funeral services for Dennis Banks, leader and co-founder of the American Indian Movement, will begin at noon Wednesday with a wake and service at the American Indian Center in Minneapolis and an all-night visitation on Thursday in Leech Lake.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the American Indian Center, 1530 E. Franklin Av. Services also will be held in his home community of Leech Lake in northern Minnesota beginning at 2 p.m. Thursday and continuing with an all-night wake at the Battle Point Community Center. There will be another service at noon Friday at the center, 10051 Battle Point Trail NW., Federal Dam. A Celebration of Life service will be held there at 7 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the community center.

Banks, born on the Leech Lake Reservation, died Sunday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester from complications following open-heart surgery. He was 80.
