Several hundred young people occupied the State Capitol's front lawn Saturday, protesting Ugandan rebel Joseph Kony's abduction of children to fight in his militia.

The rally was one of many held around the world to raise awareness of the "child soldiers," local spokesperson Erica Schwartz said. Participants wrote letters to President Obama and Sen. Amy Klobuchar asking for their help.

Some of the protesters planned to leave St. Paul in a caravan for Milwaukee and Chicago for other rallies.

Kony, who wants to install a theocratic government in Uganda, has been accused by an international court of being responsible for 10,000 deaths and the abduction of more than 24,000 children.
