Police on Friday morning arrested a 62-year-old man in connection with what they called a domestic-related homicide in downtown Minneapolis, officials said.
The man was booked into county jail later that morning on suspicion of murder, jail records show. The Star Tribune generally doesn't identify suspects who haven't been charged with a crime.
The suspect was arrested sometime around 9 a.m. after police responded to a domestic call at a high-rise condominium building in the 100 block of Marquette Avenue S., according to a department news release.
"Upon arrival, officers discovered an adult female deceased and they took an adult male family member into custody," the release said. "We are not looking for anyone else involved in this crime."
Police did not identify the woman, saying that her name and cause of death would be released by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office. Her death marked the city's 49th slaying of the year, leaving Minneapolis with its highest homicide total in a decade.
Not included in that tally is one killing that is being investigated as self-defense and another in which medical examiners were unable to establish whether a man shot himself or was killed by someone else. And last month, city man was charged with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and interference with a dead body in connection with the disappearance and possible death of a 25-year-old woman.
