Baron Vaughn

Vaughn is less a purebred standup and more a multi-threat entertainer. The actor/comedian, 32, is best known as Leo, a zippy assistant on USA's quirk-drama "Fairly Legal." Alone onstage, he'll pepper his joke-telling with singing, dancing and other theatrics. The spark-plug comic is best, though, when he reins in the exuberance and focuses on his occasionally hilarious material. Innately likable, his slice-of-life act skewers pop culture, provides fresh takes on race and is just edgy enough to keep things interesting (a bit on the KKK's Web presence is especially sharp). Vaughn has performed on "Conan" and "Fallon"; his debut standup album, "Raised by Cable," was released last year. -Jay Boller

Ballet of the Dolls' 'Faith: A Dance for Life'

Ballet of the Dolls takes the Ordway stage for "Faith." In his own singular fashion, choreographer Myron Johnson will explore one man's journey -- perhaps it's a dream, or it could be reality -- through a life-or-death situation. The work should have some of the same surreal qualities as the late Bob Fosse's 1979 film "All That Jazz," in which the territory between earthly and divine realms has a bit more show business to it than one might expect. Faith plays a role in this new Dolls work, but in a variety of different forms -- and with all irreverent twists Johnson is known for. The choreographer promises this is the only time the work will be performed. Arrive at 6:30 p.m. for a lobby discussion with local artists about the role of faith in their work. -Caroline Palmer
