Minnesota United midfielder Robin Lod sustained torn meniscus in his left knee during Wednesday's home victory over Houston and will undergo surgery on Monday, the club announced Friday afternoon.
Lod, 30, started Wednesday's game and played all of the 1-0 victory. He has started 10 MLS games and barely come off the field in those contests. He has carried such a load in good part to help fill star Emanuel Reynoso's absence all season.
Loons coach Adrian Heath said the severity of Lod's injury — whether he'll miss a couple weeks or a month or more — won't be known until the operation reveals how much repair is needed.
"We've got a deep squad," Heath said. "So we have cover, but you can do without losing your better players. We're without arguably two of our best players (Lod and Reynoso) at this moment in time, which doesn't help."
