Most of the Northeast dodged a bullet with this storm. Why? Simply, there wasno big arctic dome in place before the storm hit. Storms that produce majorsnowfalls always attack large, cold high pressure systems. This gives the airextra lift which is a prerequisite for heavy snow. If there is no high in theway, upward motion is less intense, and a monster snowstorm can't happen.Tuesday night, snow will spread from southern Vermont and New Hampshire intosouthern Maine. Along a line from Concord, N.H., to Bangor, Maine, up to 6inches of snow will accumulate. Over 6 inches of snow can be expected in NewBrunswick later Tuesday night and Wednesday.

Through southeastern New York, western Connecticut and western Massachusetts, the snow will stop this evening.

The region from Ohio through southwestern Pennsylvania into West Virginia couldpick up a couple of inches of snow overnight from heavy snow showers. The snowmay accumulate 6 or 8 inches in the Laurel Mountains of southwesternPennsylvania, in Garret County, Md., and in the mountains of West Virginia.
