Just weeks after breaking the Rosemount school record in the shot put at the True Team Section 3 meet, Hayden Bills went farther at the Class 3A True Team state meet Friday at Stillwater High School.

The senior launched a throw of 66 feet, 8 ¾ inches to break the state record. The previous state record (65-8) was set by Thomas Anderson of Andover in 2012.

Bills, who will compete for Arizona State in college, has been moving in on the record. At the Section 3 meet May 9, he posted a distance of 65-3 ½.

Bills also won the discus, throwing 195-9. He helped Rosemount finish second among teams, with 1,137.5 points.

Wayzata won the boys team title with 1,144 points and overtook Rosemount by winning the last event of the night, the 4x400-meter relay. Minnetonka won the girls championship with 1,253 points.

In the True Team format, each team enters three athletes in every event, and all results count toward the final score. Wayzata's boys victory was true to the format: The Trojans had only one individual champion. Minnetonka finished third with 998 points.

Wayzata finished second among girls teams with 1,133 points, and Rosemount finished third with 978.5 points.

Two other boys won two individual events. Rosemount's Grantham Green won the 110 (14.79 seconds) and 300 hurdles (39.82), and Minnetonka's Tobias Williams in the 100 (10.80) and 200 (22.15).

Among girls, Minnetonka's Claire Kohler won twice, in the 100 (14.33) and 300 (44.68) hurdles.

Classes 2A and 1A compete Saturday at Stillwater.
