Sophomore defenseman Sydney Baldwin's first goal of the season, unassisted with 24 seconds left in the first period, turned out to be the winner in the Gophers' 4-1 victory over Yale on Saturday night at Ridder Arena.
It came on a power play and put the No. 3 Gophers (13-1) ahead 2-1. Teammates Lee Stecklein and Milica McMillen scored goals in the second period for a three-goal lead. Hannah Brandt got her 16th goal of the season for Minnesota in the first period.
All but Stecklein's goal came with a man-advantage; the Gophers were 3-for-3 on the power play, Yale 0-3.
Minnesota's NCAA-leading power-play is now at 51.1 percent (23-for-45) — or almost 20 percentage points higher than the Boston College, next at 32.7.
Stecklein and Brandt each had three-point games with one goal and two assists.
Phoebe Staenz had the lone goal for Yale (1-6-1), which was swept this weekend, falling 6-3 the first night. The Bulldogs were outshot 39-15 in the second game.
Sidney Peters made 14 saves for the Gophers in improving her record to 3-0; Yale goalie Hanna Mandl stopped 35 shots.
