A series of low pressure systems moving westward over the Philippines willlead to devastating flooding through the weekend.Since Wednesday, many areas of the Philippines have recorded over 4 inchesof rain, with local amounts up to 8 inches. Through the weekend, another 2 to 4inches of rain will fall, with local amounts exceeding 8 inches.

The result of the heavy rain will be widespread flooding throughout thenation. Along with the heavy rain comes the threat for life-threateningmudslides.

In addition, there is concern that an area of low pressure currently east ofthe Philippines could become a tropical storm prior to reaching the Philippinesthis weekend. If that were to happen, rainfall totals could exceed 12 inchesand would be accompanied by strong, gusty winds.
