A major storm that began Monday in the southwest will bring damaging winds,flooding rain, and blizzard conditions to respective areas of Japan throughmidweek.Winds to 60 mph will affect most of Japan. Heavy rain will lead to localizedflooding. Across northern Honshu and Hokkaido, it will be cold enough for snow.

One to two feet of snow will fall. Winds to 60 mph will create blizzardconditions.

Heavy snow hit Hokkaido over the weekend. Fifteen inches of snow fell inWakkanai Sunday, bringing the snow depth to 3 feet.

Major disruptions including travel delays, power outages, and even airportclosures are expected.
