My Sunday column was inspired by the fruitless efforts of my colleague Jeff Hargarten to get data about cyberattacks against Minnesota state government computers. MN.IT Services, the state's tech support arm, rejected his data request by citing the "security data" exemption in the Minnesota Government Data Practices Act. I learn about new barriers to access in this law just about every week. As these attacks and breaches continue, however, I expect that the agency will be forced to cough up more data on its war with hackers.
