Nothing really survives translation, and such is the case with a new cycling trend: the Gran Fondo. The Italian name for a long-distance race with chip timing and highly competitive riders, the Gran Fondo done in the U.S. often translates into a fun group ride that ends with a party. Who's complaining? The Fulton Gran Fondo rolled out May 9, sending riders on a 100-mile route that ended at the brewery. This fall, the Lifetime Gran Fondo starts in Waconia for multiple distances up to 60 miles. Kids 12 and under are free with a registered adult. Viva la differenza! ltgranfondo.com
