A day trip to Alexis Bailly Vineyard has become an annual tradition for many a city dweller, and the Hastings winery is kicking off the wine-tasting season this weekend with an open house. The popular vineyard, which pioneered the wine industry in Minnesota, will celebrate the release of its 2008 vintage of organic wines made from 100 percent Minnesota-grown grapes. The vineyard's motto, "Where the grapes can suffer," comes from founder David Bailly, who opened the vineyard in 1978, undeterred by those who said no wine grape could live through a Minnesota winter. Following this weekend, tasting room hours will be observed every Friday to Sunday through Thanksgiving.
