Knocked out loaded

During a recent performance at the Dakota in Minneapolis, Loudon Wainwright III pulled out "Daughter," the touching song he recorded for 2007's "Knocked Up." It reminded me just how great the tunes are for this Judd Apatow comedy with contributions from Bright Eyes, Beck and Uncle Tupelo. Re-watch with special attention to the soundtrack. Better yet, pick up Wainwright's album "Strange Weirdos."

Going to the chapel

"Married at First Sight," a reality series in which participants agree to skip the dating process and go straight to the nuptials, has moved to Chicago and switched stations. The show, based on a Danish series, originally aired on FYI and A&E.

We got the beat

"Soundtracks: Songs That Defined History," an eight-part series that looks at world events through the background music, is the kind of project MTV and VH1 used to specialize in. CNN, which recently tackled the history of comedy, does a decent job of showing off its pop credentials, although it's a little puzzling that the news network couldn't secure bigger names for the first episode, which focuses on the assassination of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. Next week's installment about the Sept. 11 attacks is more star-studded, and more moving.
