Lynx update: Coach Cheryl Reeve's challenge to her team for Game 2, after losing Sunday's opener in the best-of-five series 75-69? Show the same determination and energy the Fever showed in Game 1. Energy that enabled the Fever to hit four of five three-pointers after offensive rebounds, to outscore the Lynx 22-12 on second-chance points. F Maya Moore (27 points) and C Sylvia Fowles (21) scored 48 of Minnesota's 69 points, but also committed 11 of the team's 15 turnovers. There has to be more scoring balance. After Moore and Fowles, the rest of the Lynx roster went a combined 7-for-25 from the field. Look for Augustus to come out more aggressively, and for the Lynx to try different things to get Whalen going. Sunday's loss was only the second home playoff loss in the Reeve era — the team is 18-2 in such games — and both losses have come against the Fever.
Fever update: The Lynx did a good job containing the Fever frontcourt of F Tamika Catchings (12 points) and C Erlana Larkins (four). At least offensively. But Catchings had four steals, six rebounds and several other instances where a simple tip kept the ball alive and resulted in an offensive rebound for a teammate. Fever guards Briann January (19), Shenise Johnson (10) and Shavonte Zellous (10 off the bench) were the key to a Game 1 victory. Wing Marissa Coleman (16 points) was also a threat from outside. It was hustle and second chances that allowed the Fever to win, on the road, despite shooting 36 percent.
