See more of the story

The Traveler: Chas. Jensen of St. Paul.

The scene: New York City's bustling Times Square — always a technicolor extravaganza — grew more vivid with a slick coating of rain when Jensen visited in March. "It was a rainy night, which really enhances the beauty of the Square," he wrote in an e-mail. "With all of the signage lighting up the scene, reflecting off the pavement as well as the raincoats and umbrellas adding to the riot of colors, I thought this photo perfectly represented the experience you get when you encounter Times Square for the first time."

Why this shot?: "I always tell people who are planning to visit Times Square that it feels like you're walking into a pinball machine, with the lights, the sounds, the smells and the hustle and bustle that envelops you the entire time you're in the area," he wrote. "When I got home and went through my photos from this trip, I picked this photo because it illustrated that idea perfectly."

The equipment: Jensen used a Nikon D750 with a Nikon 50mm f1.4 lens to capture this moment in time.
