Canterbury Park officials have canceled racing for Thursday evening. The race program was scheduled to begin at 6:30 pm.
The Shakopee area endured heavy rainfall earlier Thursday and another storm is likely tonight.
"Due to the immense amount of rain we received today and to impending storms with lightning that are expected to be coming through the area for the next several hours, racing has been canceled for tonight," Canterbury Park president Randy Sampson said.
"In addition to lightning concerns, the storm could drop another inch or two of rain, which will complicate flooding on our property and surrounding roads. We felt it was better to make the call now to minimize as much as possible the inconvenience to our guests, horsemen and employees."
Racing will resume Friday at 6:30 pm.
