A 6-month-old baby allegedly taken from his mother by her ex-boyfriend three days ago was located unharmed Thursday afternoon in Minneapolis, St. Paul police said.

"St. Paul police personnel located My'Air safe and sound" about 1:45 p.m., police spokeswoman Molly McMillen said. "The boy was located at a fire station in Minneapolis."

Nichlis J. Kruse, 36, of Minneapolis is suspected of taking My'Air on Monday, police said.

McMillen explained that "people who knew the boy" assisted in leading police to the child.

As for tracking down Kruse, the police spokeswoman said, "We are in active conversations with people who may have information on what has occurred over the past few days."

The boy's mother told police she last saw Kruse and her son near W. University Avenue and Hwy. 280 in St. Paul, McMillen said.

"Kruse sent a threatening message on the night of Aug. 16 to My'Air's mother, and we are concerned for the welfare of My'Air," read a police statement, which offered no specifics about the nature of the threat.

Kruse's criminal history in Minnesota includes a conviction for aiding an offender after the fact in connection with the 2011 murder of Dekoda Galtney, 24, who was shot in the heart as he exited a car in the Dayton's Bluff neighborhood.

He also has two pending criminal cases filed this year involving allegations of fleeing police. In April, a sheriff's deputy saw Kruse slumped over the steering wheel outside a gas station in Monticello, Minn., and roused him, the charges read. He drove off, but was stopped about a mile later, and a loaded gun was found in his vehicle.

In January in Minneapolis, police stopped him for allegedly driving recklessly. He crashed into a snowbank and ran off but was soon captured, the charges read.

Kruse also has been convicted of felony theft and carrying a gun in public without a permit.

Police are urging anyone with information about the apparent child abduction to call 911 or 651-291-1111.
