Snow is departing the mid-Atlantic and southern New England, and more snow isalready back in the forecast for these two regions. The snow will come Fridayinto Saturday as a storm currently soaking Texas pushes northeastward. The northern I-81 corridor through Virginia and the neighboring mountains willbear the brunt of the snowstorm with 12 to 18 inches expected to fall. Between6 to 12 inches will blanket other areas from central Indiana to southern NewJersey and Delaware. Residents and motorists should prepare for treacheroustravel and many disruptions to daily routines.

For the Delmarva and southeastern Virginia, plain snow is not expectedthroughout the entire duration of the storm. Current thinking is that the stormwill begin as a wintry mix before a changeover to rain takes place. The stormwill then end as accumulating snow. In the icy mix area outlined above insoutheastern Virginia, 1-3 inches of snow is expected Saturday. More snow couldfall if the storm tracks farther to the south.

The mid-Atlantic is where the heaviest snow will fall, but the storm will alsospread snow over the nation's midsection. Snow could begin as a period offreezing drizzle, making travel even more hazardous.
