When new video-game consoles come out, the seemingly glacial release of initial games and updates can test players' patience. The PlayStation 4 has been no different. But PS4 fans got good news last week with a system update that adds support for Sony's widely adored Pulse wireless headsets, a PS3 mainstay. The rechargeable headsets boast immersive 7.1 virtual surround sound and a hidden noise-canceling microphone (for online trash talking, naturally), and they work wirelessly with other devices. Sony also soon will release its new Gold Wireless Headset ($99), a PS4-minded update to the Pulse. Also coming for the PS4 is the free Headset Companion App, which allows gamers to configure their audio experience and download developers' customized sound profiles for various games.
