Gimme Shelter Foundation may be closed, but one of its owners, Zak Khutoretsky, aka theDEVIOUSone, is trying to keep underground electronic music alive in downtown Minneapolis. The veteran DJ debuted a new weekly night last Friday called Shelter, which takes place four stories up from Bar-Fly in the club's intimate loft space. Each Friday, Khutoretsky will invite one experienced DJ to show off his or her repertoire for a single four-hour set. Khutoretsky will perform tonight, while another vet, E-Tones, is up next Friday. Khutoretsky said he wanted to go away from the trendy club atmosphere, which seems to be more about image and money, rather then music and dancing.

"Now that the pressure of Foundation is not on my shoulders, I have the ability to go back underground and just play music," he said. "And this [night] is all about the music. ... There's nothing else to it. So that DJ has to go deep into their crates."

While he doesn't have his own club anymore, he said Bar-Fly's private loft has all he's ever wanted: A full bar, a rooftop patio, a lounge and a dance floor.

Of course, he's bringing the sound system, something he's known for in the scene. He'll have a wall of sound -- almost 20,000 watts of power -- at each party.

"It's a club night, without the club gimmick," he said.

Party like a Playboy Club promoter Taylortainment has another hot party at Envy, this one hosted by August Playboy cover model Kayla Collins. For tonight's party, clubbers are encouraged to follow her lead by wearing lingerie, pajamas and "Playboy attire." There is also a VIP hot tub available for $550 in the club. While you can't actually get in the tub, you can sit by it and observe the two models who will be wading in the water. But Collins' weekend isn't over after tonight. The promoter is bringing her to Jersey's in Inver Grove Heights for a similar party Saturday. (9 p.m. Fri. 400 1st Av. N., Mpls. $10-$15. 21 and older. 612-673-9694. EnvyMpls.com.)

More electronica Yet another superstar Dutch trance DJ is coming to Epic in downtown Minneapolis. Two months after Tiesto, now comes Ferry Corsten, one of the top-ranked DJs in the world. Corsten has stayed busy since releasing his 2006 album "L.E.F." (short for Loud, Electronic, Ferocious). He tours the world and now has an XM Radio show called "Corsten's Countdown." (10 p.m. Aug. 8. 110 N. 5th St., Mpls. $20. 18 and older. 612-332-3742. EpicMpls.com.)
