Five former clients of two lawyers were paid $8,402 in compensation for money or property held by their lawyers and never returned, according to the Minnesota Client Security Board. At the board's June meeting, four claims totaling $4,490 were approved against Nathan K. McLean, a St. Paul lawyer suspended in January for failing to diligently represent clients and properly handle fees and documents. The board previously settled three other claims against him. One client's claim for $3,912 was approved against Gregory J. Rebeau, a St. Paul lawyer who was suspended in August 2010 after the Minnesota Supreme Court found he misappropriated client funds, mishandled retainer fees and shielded money from the IRS.
