This Red-tailed Hawk caught and killed a Gray Squirrel in our yard a couple of days ago. The bird was hooding the squirrel when we first saw it, wings open and sheltering its prey. We found the bird because of the commotion being made by neighborhood crows. After I took this photo the bird picked up the squirrel and flew away, a photo opp missed. The hawk weighs about 2.5 pounds, the squirrel about 1 pound.
