A crossroads between young hipster cool, old hippie good vibes and big-city multiculturalism, the area around Lake Street and Minnehaha Avenue in south Minneapolis is spiritedly reflected in the eclectic lineup and general let-it-roll atmosphere of Roots, Rock, and Deep Blues. The single-day bash lands on a Saturday (July 19 this year) in and around Patrick's Cabaret and Harriet Brewing, with an assortment of outdoor and indoor stages and two dozen or so bands. Per the fest's name, it is indeed heavy with blues — raw, scrappy, grungier blues, not the Jonny Lang kind — plus it hosts other deep-from-the-heart music ranging from folk and bluegrass to punky rock, such as last year's out-of-town headliner the Meat Puppets. Harriet's European-style brews and a worldly array of food trucks add greatly to the flavor, and the $15-$20 tickets go back into the community arts programs at Patrick's. patrickscabaret.org
