Can birds throw temper tantrums? Probably not. This Barn Swallow juvenile, though, is giving a good imitation of one. It and a sibling were being fed by their parents in a meadow in Orono. The bird with its foot in the air was in the process of turning on the fence to face what it apparently felt was a more profitable direction, parent birds carrying food arriving at all angles. It struck a perfect tantrum pose. The bright yellow gape is meant to attract the attention of parents. How could you not see that mouth?
