Aditya Kshirsagar, 6, performed with the rest of his group at a Diwali celebration in Minnetonka on Saturday. Diwali, which celebrates the victory of good over evil, is celebrated for five days, the third popularly known as the Festival of Lights. This year's event, sponsored by the Marathi Association of Minnesota, drew more than 200 people to Hopkins High School for the Hindu celebration, which the parent of one participant compared with Christmas. The word diwali derives from the Sanskrit "deepavali," which translates to "row of lights." After Saturday's performances? Dinner for all.
