St. Cloud – Freshman Sarah Potomak scored two goals and had three assists to lead the No. 3 Gophers to a 7-0 rout of St. Cloud State on Friday afternoon in WCHA women's hockey at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center.
With the victory, Gophers coach Brad Frost passed Laura Halldorson as the winningest coach in program history. His career record is 279-44-21 in nine seasons.
"It's an honor," Frost said. "Certainly Laura Halldorson has built a great program, and my goal was to continue to try and exude the values she set up and try and keep the program heading in the right direction."
Potomak's linemates also had big games. Dani Cameranesi had one goal and three assists, and Hannah Brandt, returning after missing four games with an undisclosed injury, had one goal and two assists.
Potomak, who had a game-high seven shots on goal, leads the nation's rookies in points with 50 and everyone in assists with 37.
The Gophers (21-3, 16-3 WCHA) took a 4-0 lead in the opening period, scoring twice 28 seconds apart in the fourth minute on goals by Brandt and Potomak.
Defenseman Kelsey Cline and forward Kelley Pannek also had three points apiece. Each had one goal and two assists.
Amanda Leveille made 18 saves, including 10 in the second period, for the shutout. Katie Fitzgerald stopped 26 shots for St. Cloud State (10-10-3, 7-9-3-3). The Huskies had been 3-0-1 in their previous two series in 2016.
This was the 29th consecutive win for the Gophers over SCSU and the fourth this season, during which Minnesota has outscored the Huskies 32-0.
