You'll have to pay more these days for black-oil sunflower seed, but the price of this costly seed varies in the Twin Cities area.
I called five retail outlets -- two birding stores, one hardware store, one big-box home-maintenance store and a seed co-op. The price for 10 pounds of seed varied from $3.99 to $7.50. The lowest price I found -- $19.95 for 50 pounds -- was at the Hennepin Cooperative Seed Exchange in Maple Plain, 763-479-2123.
