On a cool, rainy June night people wandered the wet streets of Minneapolis in search of art exhibitions, projections, and performances. Saturday night, the fourth annual Northern Spark took place in Minneapolis, despite the incessant rain. Participants gathered at events and exhibitions during the all night arts festival in six different areas throughout the city. The night began with the opening ceremony featuring lively performances by the Mu Daiko drummers and Grrl Party at the Convention Center. Because of the rain, many events were moved into alternate, covered locations. The 100 Course Dinner on the Mall, by Scott Pampuch, was moved inside and featured 100 bite-sized courses available for free to participants. Diners were seated at one long table and brought small courses at brief intervals, including roasted sweet potatoes, and even raw oysters. In addition to the 100 Course Dinner, visitors to Northern Spark enjoyed an installation in Orchestra Hall, near the Convention Center, that used nontraditional 'instruments' to control the light and sound experience in the lobby. With each touch on the light up instruments, the lights in the lobby would change color and the sounds would change. The 2014 theme for Northern Spark was "Projecting the City" and each project related to the artists' ideas of what they thought the city of Minneapolis could be.
