Assistant U.S. Secretary of State Eric Schwartz, the next dean of the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs, gave his valedictory speech Wednesday at the U.S. Institute of Peace in Washington, D.C. Schwartz, who is leaving his post in the Obama administration as Assistant Secretary of State for Population, Refugees and Migration, said that "U.S. support for international humanitarian assistance is money well spent: It saves lives, it promotes our leadership, and it can create conditions for peace and reconciliation."
