When it comes to heavy metal in Antarctica, most folks know not to put their tongues on it.
Metallica is asking for their ears.
The mega-band whose hits include "Nothing Else Matters" and "Seek and Destroy" appears to have booked a concert in the frigid reaches of Antarctica, Billboard reports via the website Blabbermouth, which covers heavy metal bands.
Word of the concert surfaced on a Columbian website for Coca-Cola Zero, which is giving fans in six Columbian cities the chance to go to the concert, likely at the U.S.-run McMurdo Station on the Antarctic coast.
There's no announced concert date, but contestants are told to be available to travel between Dec. 2 and 15.
Metallica's drummer, Lars Ulrich, perhaps dropped a hint last month when he told a California radio station that the band had "another frontier coming in December, which we're very excited about."
Average December temperatures at McMurdo are a relatively balmy 26 degrees, about 50 degrees warmer than temps at the South Pole, which average 20-below.
