Authorities have identified the 37-year-old man who was fatally shot on the front stoop of a house in north Minneapolis.

Melvin A. Felton, who lived about 1¾ miles southeast of where he was shot, died Tuesday after being taken from a home in the 3300 block of Newton Avenue N., according to the Hennepin County medical examiner's office.

Felton suffered a gunshot to the abdomen, the examiner's office said.

Police have yet to say whether Felton was the shooter's intended target. No arrests have been announced.

Officers were called to the shooting about 5:55 p.m. They found the victim on the front steps of the house with a gunshot wound. Felton was taken to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, where he later died.
