Minnesota Lynx forward Charde Houston was named recipient of the WNBA's Dawn Staley Community Leadership Award, recognizing her community work in Minnesota.

In 2009, Houston founded Project Youth Opportunities Unlimited (Project Y.O.U), a nonprofit organization designed to educate and empower youth to excel in school and in life.

During the 2010 season, Houston partnered with Perspectives Inc. to mentor a group of girls in Minnesota, to stress the importance of education, self-esteem and becoming leaders in the community.

Lucia to play in Canada Mario Lucia, the son of Gophers hockey coach Don Lucia and the Wild's 2011 second-round pick, will play next season at BCHL Penticton over USHL Des Moines, Mario Lucia confirmed Friday.

"I just felt more comfortable there and that's where my heart was at," said Lucia, a star at Wayzata High and the first Minnesotan selected in last month's NHL draft.
