Just came home from the Hopefuls' album release party at First Ave. Saw Chris Koza's opening set, too. I am crazy about Chris' song "Adjust." It's one of those songs that loops around and around in your head without a stopping point, and I don't want it to stop.

The Hopefuls were glorious, even before their guest dancer Rupert Pederson bumrushed the stage with his hilarious crowd-enhancing moves, even before they brought a choir of clapping, chanting women up, I was smiling continuously. "One Seat Theater," "Hold Your Own," "Only Dreaming," all sounded great, loud, brash as the Hopefuls ought to. Everyone at the gig had driven through slick ice and snow to get there. That always adds a feeling of bonhomie to a gig, even a big one.

I needed the show and I didn't even know it; I wish I could carry a little sign with me that says, "Live music will cheer you up." On a dispiriting snowstormy day, especially.
