It was so informative and uplifting to read about the Opus Prize Foundation's award to Segundo Velasquez for his work with the nonprofit he founded, Mano a Mano ("Humanitarian wins $100,000 and notice for work in Bolivia," Nov. 12). The very real improvements brought about in the lives of many impoverished residents in Bolivia through his efforts was heartwarming. Then came Steve Sack's cartoon on billionaire Sheldon Adelson on the Opinion page -- a stark reminder of the billions of dollars poured down the drain in the recent election season. There is something lacking in our value system when we have this dreadful disconnect between the haves and the have-nots. M.J. VIK, ST. PAUL
